Gypsy Lady

Written by Jack Cooper, © 2001, Socan

Over the past twelve years, I've worked with many researchers and graduate students at the University of Waterloo. One of the older grad students, who I used to help quite a bit, went out for a drink with me at the Grad Club. He started to spill out his troubles- things weren't going right in his life and he was convinced that some dabbling with "the occult" as a young university student may have been the cause of his problems. He asked me if I knew about the occult, or black magic, and if I could recommend someone to help undo the damage he may have done. I didn't, but I was intrigued by his combination of dedication and desperation that would have prompted him to drive many miles that night to seek counsel with someone who could eradicate his bad luck. This is his story.

Lyrics

What will my future hold
What is in the cards
Will it always be a mystery
Will it always be this hard
Seems like each relationship
Always ends in ruin
Everyone I've grown to trust and love
Always leaves me much too soon

Chorus:
Gypsy Lady, please save me
I come to you tonight, tonight
Read my fortune from your crystal ball
Help me see things right

I believe in Jesus
I've believed in him since birth
And I'll keep on needing to believe
'Til I'm planted in the earth
But Somehow I have missed out
On a wife and family
So I come to you, my gypsy
For the answers that I need

Chorus

There's a long cold drive tonight
Through the winter fog and snow
Soon I'll be with my new lady friend
We will let the night unfold
We will light a candle
Then we'll say a prayer
That whatever curse I'm under
Soon will vanish into air

Chorus
