This is the oldest of the original songs on the CD. The first version of this song was completed around the end of 1991. I wrote this because I tend to lose contact with old friends very easily. I tend to burn my bridges on occasion and I'm not very sentimental about resurrecting old friendships. Before I brought this song to Ken, I played it on guitar based around a simple riff. Ken persuaded me to perform it in a jazz swing style which really suits the mood of the song.

I just can't remember
where we got lost
Or what it was I was thinking
When I wrote you off
Now this empty feeling
Keeps me warm at night
The next time I see you
I swear I'm gonna put it right
We'd sit alone
in the kitchen
For hours on end
Wild conversations
With no need to pretend
Now this empty feeling
Keeps me warm at night
The next time I see you
I swear I'm gonna put it right
Now, I'm not one
To simply walk away
Then one night you crossed some line
So I just couldn't stay
I've lived with strangers
And I've learned to live alone
But I can't brush aside this foolish pride
That keeps me mute as stone
Now this empty
feeling
Keeps me warm at night
The next time I see you
I swear I'm gonna put it right
The next time I see you
I swear I'm gonna put it right
