Black Eyed Susie

Written by Jack Cooper, © 2001, Socan

Rick Fines recorded his slide dobro part separately, after we had recorded the original instruments. My jaw repeatedly drops when I hear what he did. Not only did he nail some brilliant parts, but each time I hear it I am convinced that I had amnesia during the original recording sessions and that Rick really was in the same room playing with me during the recording. Special thanks for his contributions.

Lyrics

Black-eyed Susie was born to sing
From the time she opened her mouth and went peep
She sings in the morning and she sings at night
Pretty thing, she sings herself to sleep
She'll learn to fly, yeah, she'll learn to fly
She'll learn to fly, yeah, she'll learn to fly

Black-eyed Susie's gonna learn how to fly
She only needs to spread her wings
She'll soar past Venus, then she'll glide by Mars
She'll swoop in and out of Saturn's rings
She'll learn to fly, yeah, she'll learn to fly
She'll learn to fly, yeah, she'll learn to fly

Black-eyed Susie comes to me at night
She's always creeping in my dreams
I go up to the window, take a look outside
She's flying high, majestic and serene
She's learned to fly, yeah, she's learned to fly
She's learned to fly, yeah, she's learned to fly
